Blog Assignment 5

The main characters in The Old Man and the Sea are Santiago, a fisherman and Manolin, a boy who helps him.

Three adjectives that describe Santiago are poor, lonely and calm. Firstly, Santiago had not taken any fishes for eighty-four days, so there is no food in his house and his shirts was patched so many times. (p14&p18) It reveals he is poor. Secondly, he lives in his house alone and his wife had already died. (p16) It reveals he is lonely. Thirdly, in this story, he does not so express his feeling if Manolin talks to him passionately. (p14) It reveals that he is calm. I think this calm was generated from his long life.

Three adjectives that describe Manolin are kind, passionate and sensible. Firstly, When Manolin saw the old man come back with no fish, he felf sorry for the old man and always helped him. (p9)In addition this, he spread a blanket over the old man when he found the old man sleeping.(p18) It reveals his kind. Secondly, from conversation between him and the old man, he is thought to be passionate. I think he is passionate because he is young. Thirdly, when the old man left his home to go fishing alone, he just saw the old man off though he wanted to go with him acutually. (p26/l.11)It reveals that he is sensible.
